Hit the road at about 12:30. Short drive on I-80, then turned north on Hwy 395. Not a bad drive, all things considered. Left 395 in Susanville for Hwy 36, but that lasted only about 10 miles before I was on hwy 44. Hwy 44, and later Hwy 89 through northern California are beautiful drives. The down side is: hills. Glad I'm not still in 4230 – I'd probably just now be getting to I-5. 4253 isn't any great shakes at hills, but at least I don't have to shift down to 4th when I have a serious load on.
Drove a total of 12 hours today (legally!), with about 45 minutes of drive slopping over into Aug 30 – I had about 30 minutes on my 11 when I dropped the trailer in Brooks. But that's for tomorrow's comments.
Other than the beautiful scenery, nothing to report. No blazingly stupid drivers, no wrecks. Heck, not even any damn weather. I'm getting really tired of this. I want rain and lighting and thunder and wind and and and and
In the morning, I'll do the shower thing then go look for one of the compliance people for my little test thing. Something tells me I'm gonna have to wait for Tuesday (Monday being a holiday), which means I'm gonna be sitting here for three days – again! Sure, it's layover pay, but I'd much rather be driving.
Also, I don't think my breakdown pay was in this last paycheck. Gotta find a way to get online and check that stuff.
I think I'm going to un-sneer at those drivers who wear gloves while driving. I think I'm gonna dig up some biker gloves (bicycler, not motorcycler) with the jell padding. Towards the end of a long day, my hands and arms are going numb, and my right wrist actually hurts a bit from all the vibration coming up through the steering column. Thinking those gloves might help.
Ate dinner in Medford. Burger King. Not really what I wanted but better than the other options right there (stopped for another reason and didn't see any real point in driving around looking for better fare)
Arrived in Brooks at about 01:30. Dropped trailer and got ready for bed. Only one spot open on the “loaded trailers” line because some moron A) parked his trailer covering two spots and B) also parked it Crooked.
