August 27 - I actually volunteered for this

01:00 – found a wide spot in the road – essentially a turn-out, right at the top of the hour. Parked the truck as far away from the road as I can. There's room for another truck next to me if we get real friendly. Passed a sign that says Las Vegas is 250 miles... gonna be close for delivery. Gotta remember to call for directions, too, since there aren't any on file.

Just stepped out of the truck to... admire nature. I got curious, so I counted the lights visible from this pot on the road. 13. And no discernable glow on the horizon, either. That means, since there are no clouds, the sky is ablaze with stars. Haven't seen stars like this since I left the Coast Guard - and then it was when the ship was in mid-Pacific.

Just had a thought – LV is pacific time, so I've got an extra hour to get there. Right now, anticipate arrival at 15:30 mountain time

I'd have made it, but missed a turn and had to spend 20 minutes turning around in an itty bitty lot. Then it took me forever to put the damn truck in the door. Still, once I was there, they got me empty in reasonable time. I buzzed about 6 blocks to the Pilot and fueled. Here I sit, no load, and it's 103 Degrees F outside. That's down from 112 a couple hours ago. This is a first time ever delivery to this place, so I provided last-mile directions to dispatch – a bit different from the ones on the consignee's telephone tree. Those instructions make it easy to miss the turn into their building complex, and further, set you up for a blind side back. On the way out, I determined a way to make it harder to miss them, and at the same time set up for a sight-side back. I am so good!

While I sit here, a tour bus came in to fuel. According to the staff, it was the KISS bus, but nobody but the driver got out. Band is probably at the hotel - that's how I'd do it.

21:00 Denver time (so it's only 20:00 here) and it's still over 100 degrees. Gah! This sucks. Oh, yeah,I am SO idling this truck.
