As you, my adoring readers will recall, I have been recently forced to become one with the dark side. Yes, Mr Whitecollar has dived deep into the well of the unclean and been bitten by the grease-stained spider of work.
From the shadows of the back halls and the loading dock emerges - the Bluecollar!
Yeah. Went to "trucking school" - actually, it's a CDL school. Once you have your CDL, you go work (or try to) for some trucking company where you learn about trucking. Bit of a difference.,
So.
I got my CDL on 28 April, 2008 - and started applying to companies. Got an immediate "Come join us" from the one company I really wanted to work for.... and things got crazy. Ended up not making it to orientation (where they go over their rules, etc). My loss, definitely.
Spent the next month seeking employment. Not sure how many applications I submitted, ran out of toes a long time ago.
No matter - Got hired on by May Trucking, based in Salem, OR. Just spent two weeks with a trainer, driving and driving and driving... occasionally stopping to deliver or pick something up. I think sleep fit in there, but I'm not sure about that.
Actually, truth to tell, it's been a lot of fun. Not "roller coaster from hell" fun, but a more placid "be at one with yourself" fun. Yeah, that sounds kinda odd. But then, I always have enjoyed the inside of my head more than the outside.
Today is Wednesday, June 18. Been home since Saturday - trainer had a whack of time off coming, and he had to use it. So, I get to sit here at home and do nothing. and get paid for it.
We leave for the road again Friday. Guesstimates I'll be in my own truck a week later. Yeah, we'll see.
I haven't decided if I'm going to keep my trucking blog here or on TheDriversReport.com.. or both. I need to think about that.
Right now, though, this particular post is going to be fraught with meaninglessness - it's 90 degrees in here and the A/C isn't working for beans. I'm gonna go crawl into a cool shower for a week or two.
One way or another, I'll be back.
